Wavy James discusses “Jasmyn Interlude”: an exclusive interview on his new R&B/Soul track exploring the pain of first love and raw vulnerability.

1 – How would you describe your new song to someone who hasn’t heard it yet? What emotions do you want to convey?

Jasmyn Interlude is a very emotional R&B record about first love, heartbreak, and regret. It captures that feeling of realizing you lost someone who meant everything to you and having to live with that. The song is meant to feel intimate, almost like reading a personal letter you never sent. I wanted listeners to feel vulnerability, nostalgia, and reflection. It is the type of record you play late at night when you are thinking about someone you used to love. My goal was to bring back that era of music where you could actually feel every word and every melody.

2 – What was the main inspiration for the song? Can you share personal stories or influences that guided you?

The main inspiration came from a real breakup I went through last year with my first love. It was something that stayed on my mind for a long time, and writing became a way for me to process everything. One day I sat down and decided to turn those emotions into a song. I also found myself listening to a lot of darker R and B for inspiration, especially music that focused on vulnerability and storytelling. That helped shape the tone of the record. I wanted it to sound honest and raw, like someone speaking directly from their heart.

3 – How did the song come about? Were there any collaborations?

The song came together naturally once I started writing about my experience. I treated the process like therapy and just let everything flow. The melodies and lyrics came from a real place, which made the record feel very personal. There were no major collaborations on the writing side because I wanted the message to stay authentic to my story. The focus was making sure the production matched the emotion and pulled the listener into the atmosphere of the song.

4 – Which artists or experiences influenced your sound?

My sound is heavily influenced by the music I grew up on. I was inspired by artists like Bryson Tiller, PartyNextDoor, Drake, Chris Brown, and Justin Bieber. Albums like Take Care and Trap Soul had a big impact on me because they blended emotion with modern production. I also grew up listening to R&B from the 80’s, 90’s, and early 00’s, which shaped my ear for melodies and storytelling. I try to combine that nostalgic feeling with a modern sound so the music feels both familiar and fresh.

5 – Is there a particular moment related to the creation of the song that you remember with pleasure or satisfaction?

The moment that stands out the most was hearing the song fully come together for the first time. After writing it and recording it, I played it back and realized how personal it really was. It felt like I had finally put everything I was holding in into one record. Another special moment was playing it for my close friends. Their reaction confirmed that the emotion translated the way I intended, and that gave me confidence to release it.

6 – What emotions do you hope to convey to the public?

I want people to feel vulnerability, nostalgia, love, and regret. The song is meant to connect with anyone who has lost someone they truly cared about. I also want listeners to feel comfort knowing they are not alone in those emotions. My goal is to bring back music that makes you reflect and actually feel something instead of just listening casually.

7 – What can we expect from the future? Do you have any news coming?

I plan to keep building momentum by dropping more singles and visuals over the next few months. My focus right now is growing my catalog and developing my sound. I am also working toward releasing a mixtape around this fall that expands on the themes introduced in Jasmyn Interlude. The goal is to continue bringing that emotional yearning back to modern R and B while building a strong foundation for future projects.

8 – What message would you like to give to those who follow you or discover you for the first time?

I just want people to know that this is real music coming from real experiences. I am creating songs you can connect with and feel on a deeper level. If you have ever loved someone, lost someone, or reflected on a past relationship, you will relate to what I am building. This is only the beginning and there is a lot more music on the way. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to listen and be part of the journey.
