Album Exploring Neurodivergence Receives Pushes New Age Boundaries

Chris Redding’s The Colors in My Mind is a radiant, deeply human exploration of neurodivergence, blending New Age and Ambient music with soulful R&B overtones. Executive producer Lachi guides the project with a steady, mission-forward artistic lens, working with Redding to craft a colorful and textured album that feels both intimate and expansive.

Recently charting on iTunes and now nominated in the New Age category for the upcoming 68th GRAMMY Awards®, the album earns its acclaim by redefining what the genre can hold. Instead of being purely atmospheric, The Colors in My Mind combines meditative compositions with an urban twist and narrative intention. Mixed in the 528 Hz frequency, often called the “love frequency”, the album explores concepts of neurodivergence (with Redding himself, as well as his son, being neurodivergent).

Redding mentions that The Colors in My Mind was “crafted to harmonize with the sensory worlds of neurodivergent listeners”, going further to say that it was “inspired by my autistic son Christian, whose unique cognitive rhythm reveals dimensions beyond speech. The album shapes emotion into vibrant color”.

While tracks like “Ancestors (Stand on Mine)”, co-written by Lachi, and “The World Is Ever Changing” stand out for their musical excellence, the single “Love Cure” takes the cake as the album’s distinguished nucleus. With its steady yet gentle pulse and soaring harmonic layers over a beat co-produced by Jay Manuel, a producer and TV personality with autism, the track feels like an anthem of love over stigma. Co-written with Lachi (who also identifies as neurodivergent) and autism advocate/artist Medusa, Redding and Lachi duet over anthemic lyrics such as: “Step out of confinement and into alignment” and “My condition needs no revision”. The song’s hauntingly resilient triumph incorporates dozens of enveloping voices whispering the word “love” throughout the song, reinforcing themes of community and togetherness.

Other impressive tracks include “All Around the World”, a joyful song featuring Redding’s sons, Christian and Cairo, co-written with award-winning songwriter Autumn Rowe; “You’re Enough”, co-produced by Josh Davis; and “Running”, co-written with multi-award-winning songwriter Iyana Ferrell.

“It was quite the privilege working on this project with Chris”, Lachi said. “We set out to do something different sonically, while weaving empowering messages of acceptance and exploration onto the fabric of neurodivergence. Embracing these topics over the backdrop of groundbreaking, competitive art is how we move the cultural needle on awareness”.

What makes The Colors in My Mind extraordinary is its authenticity. Redding doesn’t romanticize neurodivergence; he renders it honestly, with both its brilliance and its vulnerability. Lachi’s hand in exceptional record producing ensures each piece lands with clarity and intention, elevating the message without diluting the sound, from the features, to the lyrics, to the album art, an introspective piece created by Afro-German autistic artist Stephan White.

Chris Redding is an award-winning artist and advocate, celebrated for his powerful fusion of hip-hop and ambient chant to bring awareness to neurodivergence.
